Contest title - "Utilize Correctly 2022" (hereinafter referred to as the Contest).
Contest organizer: SIA "Auto pārstrāde", registration No. 50003716001, legal address: Granīta iela 13A, Riga, Latvia, LV-1057.
Contest territory: Republic of Latvia.
As part of the society’s educational program, SIA “Auto pārstrāde” addresses the young generation – future car owners – encouraging them to think about car recycling. The time will come when they will need to care for environmental protection and resource saving. The average age of a car recycled in Latvia is 20 years. For example, a new TESLA, which started driving in Riga this year, will likely be recycled in about 20 years. It might happen that today's primary school students will be the ones handing in this TESLA for recycling.
Contest goal: To promote the development of creative abilities, and enhance youth understanding of proper handling of end-of-life vehicles.
Contest announcement: The contest is announced on the start date: via invitation emails to secondary schools; on the social network “Facebook”; on the website www.autoparstrade.lv.
Contest participants and applications: The contest is intended for primary and secondary school students (grades 1–9). To apply, school/class representatives should fill out an application form at least two weeks before the contest ends, so organizers can prepare thank-you gifts for each participant.
Task: Prepare a joint visual work (drawing, collage, or video story) on the theme – “utilize correctly.” The work should reflect the entire car recycling process or a stage of it. It is recommended to include captions or slogans. The work must indicate the school and class.
Story before the task:
Nowadays, we very often hear about GREEN THINKING. But what does it really mean is not entirely clear. Somewhat unexpectedly, green thinking primarily means GREEN ACTION, or how to properly handle the waste we produce. But what if you need to throw away a car – how can you even "throw away" a car?
To find out, we invite you to watch the video clip – Act responsibly!
Cars that have served their time are called end-of-life vehicles. Each end-of-life vehicle contains hazardous substances (fuel, various oils, coolants, and more). Therefore, they are considered HAZARDOUS WASTE. End-of-life vehicles must not simply be "thrown away." Proper handling means delivering them to specialized recycling companies that have received licenses from the “State Environmental Service.” These companies process vehicles by:
Separating all hazardous components;
Removing car windows;
Dismantling large plastic parts;
Removing tires.
After these steps, end-of-life vehicles are prepared for final recycling.
The final recycling is done by placing the vehicle into large metal mills, which crush the car into small pieces. The crushed metal pieces are then sent to factories to produce new metal parts.

Submission of prepared works: Send the prepared work to email: [email protected]. The work must include the authors’ information (at least school and class). Received works will be published as soon as possible on SIA “Auto pārstrāde” Facebook page facebook.com/auto.parstrade, inviting residents to “like” and share them.
Evaluation of contest works: Published works are evaluated based on the number of “likes” on the Facebook page up until the awarding. Anyone can vote.
Contest results and winners will be announced on the SIA “Auto pārstrāde” website www.autoparstrade.lv, on the Facebook page, and by email.
Prize fund: The three works with the most “likes” will be awarded "BrainGames" store gift cards:
EUR 300 – for “first place”;
EUR 200 – for “second place”;
EUR 100 – for “third place”.
All participants will receive thank-you prizes – special reflectors.
Sympathy prizes from contest supporters are also planned.
